well, at least i watched seasons 2 and most of 3. then i started getting kinda bored haha.
still though. i was surprised by how well the show mostly held up compared to other shows that aired along side it at the time. I remembered watching the show when i was younger but a lot of the context went over my head. it really was a show made with adults in mind, even tho they kept trying to rope kids into it for some reason.

i honestly can't tell if the fact that the adult characters are so stubbornly traditional is done purposefully or not, so that they can show even people like that are willing to learn a lesson or two about how the world works, especially considering it takes place in texas of all places. it's honestly clever satire.
mind you there are some things that didn't age very well, but seeing the characters stumble through these very often mundane situations is really compelling...in moderation of course. back then, shows were made more episodic so that you could afford to miss a few episodes and still sorta understand what's going on no matter where you jumped back in. not ideal for binge watching unfortunately, it's starting to get a bit stale.
oh yeah! also, the boggle episode was IMPOSSIBLE to watch without thinking of a certain youtube poop i watched a lot before. oh yeah, king of the hill had a big YTP scene at one point. it was such a good source for it, i feel. for a while i relived the show through watching them. my favorite ones were always the ones where you could still parse the general flow of the story of the source episodes despite all the chaos.
